GUS REID
BASS
Originally from Romsey, Hampshire, Gus is currently enjoying life in the Northwest of the country in the beautiful city of Chester. Having started choral singing at the age of 16 with the Hampshire County Youth Choir and Chamber Choir his love of ensemble singing has grown exponentially ever since. As a choral scholar at the University of Warwick, where he studied Modern Languages between 2018 and 2021, he founded the vocal octet Aeterna Voices. In his final year the octet recorded an album, The Cloths of Heaven.
Since then Gus has sung with various choirs around the country. Highlights have included: bass soloist in both the Mozart's and Fauré's Requiem, respectively; singing Bach’s St Matthew Passion at the Chapel of St John’s College, Cambridge with the Fairhaven Singers; regular Evensong and Compline Services with the Wells Cathedral Chamber Choir; and, currently, with Nave Choir of Chester Cathedral.

No matter where in the country Gus has ended up, singing with Esprimo has remained a constant since the consort's beginning. Exploring a wide variety of repertoire with a group of not only exceptional singers, but also old friends is, for him, a truly special experience.
Personal highlights with the group have been Hubert Parry’s Songs of Farewell and the group’s programme titled 'Beyond the Sea', which they toured to the Loire Valley, France in the summer of 2024.
When not singing Gus can be found covering long distances on foot, either running or hiking, through the Cheshire countryside. He has also been known to treat the ensemble to a rousing evening of sea shanties.
