ALEX AKHURST
TENOR
Having grown up in Netley Abbey on the south coast, Alex began singing with Hampshire County Youth Choir at 16, going on to study Music at Durham University and Performance Studies at Trinity Laban Conservatoire in London. As a tenor leggiero, Alex has performed lead stage roles including Britten's Albert Herring, Handel's Acis and Galatea, and Rossini's Il Barbiere di Siviglia and La Cenerentola.
Working as a choral singer in London and across the UK, Alex performs with professional chamber choirs and deputises at several cathedrals and major churches across the year. He is often engaged as a soloist for orchestras and choral societies. In London, he is a regular deputy in the choirs of HM Chapels Royal, Hampton Court and HM The King's Chapel of the Savoy.
Alex works for the BBC as a Senior Communications Specialist in corporate affairs and the BBC Press Office. He also led the BBC Proms 'Across the UK' and vocal music publicity campaigns during the 2024 festival.
